Suffering From Instant Message Icons?

Instant messaging is one of the most useful tools available for your computer. Unfortunately, there are a number of different competing formats. Before I discovered the apps below, my taskbar was cluttered with IM icons. To solve this problem, I tried:

GAIM http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

and

Trillian http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/

Both of these programs support multiple intant message protocols. With one tool you can communicate with your friends using ICQ, AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! and others.

The nice thing about Gaim is it’s cost - it’s free.

Trillian does the same things as GAIM, but also offers some extra features not found on GAIM. Only you can decide whether or not the extra features are useful to you.

For me, the extra features that Trillian offered were worth the small cost.

One caveat, while Instant Messaging can be a great communication tool, it can also be a big interrupter. In my case, I got so many messages that my productivity plummetted. Trillian is now located on the family computer. All instant messaging has been removed from my computer.

  1. I came across another one (I was using Trillian since the first beta’s and love it) that combines their features but you also have the option of making some money with it.

There are way too many messengers and I like having everything in one tool.

Let me know if you want info on it and you can then do a review of it.
