If You Use Passwords - Read This Article

If everyone used their common sense this article wouldn’t be needed. Sadly, it must be written.

I’m talking about how you assign and re-use your passwords. As a result of being given hundreds of peoples’ passwords, I found that password security is way too lax.

For example:

  • people reuse a common for their PayPal account. You must use a separate password for every online banking system you belong to.

  • people use the password for third-party services as they do for their domain.
Granted most third party services should be honest, but you don’t know about all the people they have working there. The dishonest person could try your password and hack into your site(s). If you must use a ocmmon username and password for their party sites - make sure it’s only used for third party sites and that none of those sites have critical information for you.
